Irene Perez

Irene Pérez (Santander, Spain, 1996) is a visual artist who earned her BFA from the University of the Basque Country

(UPV/EHU, 2018).

Her work reflects on contemporary society through painting and mixed media, creating a psychological portrait that combines figurative and abstract elements to explore ambition, resilience, and the hidden struggles of the human condition.

She has held solo and group exhibitions in cities such as Madrid, London, and Oslo, as well as in institutions including the MEAM (European Museum of Modern Art, Barcelona). She has also participated in international art fairs such as Art Up! (France), Art Madrid, and JustMad, where she was awarded her first artist residency in the Netherlands (2021). In 2022, she was selected by the New York–based company BILT, which produced a documentary about her work—an experience that motivated her to expand her career toward the United States.

Most recently, she presented a solo exhibition at the Gran Casino in Santander and is currently preparing upcoming projects, including an exhibition at Cass Contemporary, Nashville (2026). Through painting and mixed media, I combine figurative, abstract, andarchitectural elements to reveal emotions and inner battles that often remain unspoken. The recurring figure of the suited man functions as a metaphor for ambition and power, yet also reflects the tensions and effort behind every process of self-overcoming. By intertwining textures, brushstrokes, and architectural compositions, I seek to make visible what is usually hidden, transforming challenges into symbols of growth and evolution.
