Joram Roukes

Joram Roukes is a multi-disciplinary visual artist with a vast and impressive resume in the world of fine art and public mural arts.

Roukes graduated from the Minerva Academy of Fine Arts in Groningen, The Netherlands in 2006 and has since worked on countless public art projects and exhibitions both in the Netherlands and abroad.Artist residencies in Brooklyn, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, San Diego and Paris have further deepened his artistic practices and solidified him as a staple artist in the New Urban Contemporary art movement.

Roukes work is characterized by a collage-like approach to a broad range of subjects. Juxtaposing visual elements in this collage technique allows him the freedom to create compositions with abstract narratives. The stories, meaning or sentiments derived from these compositions are heavily subjected by personal background, cultural context, experience and associative patterns from each individual viewer, yet often seem to be rooted in themes of contemporary culture.

In 2020, Roukes founded the DreamCourts project, which transforms outdoor public sports grounds into interactive and monumental works of art. The DreamCourts project utilize the communities ’youth by way of workshops to benefit them with a sense of ownership and responsibility.
